Summer School in Estonia on Water Innovations
The summer school ‘WIN! Water Innovations: Policy, Management, Research’ was held at the University of Tartu (Estonia), 12-23 August 2019, within the framework of the Erasmus+ project ‘Integrated Doctoral Program for Environmental Policy, Management and Technology – INTENSE’, 586471-EPP-1-2017-1-EE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP.
Odessa State Environmental University was represented by Valeriia Ovcharuk, Director of Hydrometeorological Institute, DSc (Geography), Associate Professor, and Maryna Moniushko, Head of the Training and Consultancy Centre of Extramural and Distance Learning, PhD (Geography), Associate Professor of the Department of Oceanography and Marine Nature Management.
Altogether, 30 MSc, PhD students and researchers from various countries took part in the School. The faculty comprised the experts from the Austria, Estonia, Hungary and Latvia.
The interactive sessions, field trips, and group work were designed to give participants hands-on project and research experience with a range of water, wetland and littoral ecosystems and their sustainable use, and with a focus on novel and innovative approaches and methodologies. The school programme included field trips to Western and Northern Estonia where participants could visit the Alam-Pedja, Tudusoo and Sirtsi Nature Conservation Areas, Lahemaa National Park, the Pärnu River basin, West-Estonian coastline, the islands of Kihnu and Vormsi.
At the end of the school, participants were awarded certificates on successful completion of the course on ‘Water Innovations: Policy, Management, Research’, corresponding to 3 ECTS.
